Winners Announced for the 2025 Yukon Screen Media Industry Awards

The Screen Production Yukon Association (SPYA) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 Yukon Screen Media Industry Awards, which took place on Friday, November 7, at the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre. The evening included a celebration of local achievement and a screening of recent industry work, highlighting the creativity and growth of Yukon’s screen media community.

Each year, the Yukon Screen Media Industry Awards recognize individuals and organizations whose work exemplifies the spirit, innovation, and collaboration that define the territory’s screen media sector.

The Big Picture Award recognizes significant contributions or long-standing participation by a member of Yukon’s screen media industry. It honours those who have helped build the industry through leadership, mentorship, and creative excellence.

This year’s recipient, Dan Sokolowski, has been creating animation, experimental, and documentary films since 1983. As the long-time overseer of the Dawson City International Short Film Festival, Dan has fostered an environment that supports local filmmakers, offering access to an alternative audience outside of Whitehorse and making the festival both welcoming and inclusive. His leadership has contributed immensely to the development of Yukon filmmakers by nurturing creative exchange and collaboration across the territory.

The Viewfinder Award looks toward the future of the Yukon screen media industry, recognizing exceptional talent, innovation, and leadership that signal continued growth and opportunity.

This year’s recipient, GBP Creative Media, has been a steady force in the Yukon film sector for many years. Through their commitment to employing Yukoners, GBP Creative Media has strengthened the local skills base and expanded opportunities for real-world experience on Yukon film sets. The company has also played a vital role in community and industry development, volunteering time, offering mentorship, and providing ongoing support to others in the field. Their substantial body of commercial work has beautifully showcased Yukon people, stories, and businesses, bringing the essence of the territory to wider audiences.

“SPYA is honoured to present Dan Sokolowski with the 2025 Big Picture Award for his enduring impact on Yukon’s screen media landscape,” says Barbara Dunlop, Vice President, SPYA. “In recognition of their leadership, community spirit, and contribution to the growth of Yukon’s screen media industry, we’re proud to present GBP Creative Media with the 2025 Viewfinder Award.”
