Overview

The Screen Production Yukon Association is excited to announce the launch of a new Yukon Filmmaker Bootcamp, designed to jumpstart your filmmaking career with a focus on writing, directing, and producing scripted works. This bootcamp will provide over 60 hours of training from July to October, with industry experts from across Canada brought to Whitehorse to teach everything you need to know about making scripted films.

The Yukon Filmmaker Bootcamp is a multi-phase talent development bootcamp supporting the development of Yukon-made narrative films, while also providing hands-on training opportunities for the development of local crew.

To participate, filmmakers will apply with their short film concepts and selected projects will then enter into Phase One: Development, focused primarily on screenwriting and directing techniques. By the end of the first phase, all participants will have created a short screenplay, treatment, and budget for their film projects.

Once the development phase is completed, filmmakers wishing to participate in the second phase  of the bootcamp will submit their development package to be considered for  Phase Two: Prep & ProductionA jury of industry professionals and decision makers will select three projects  that will move onto this second phase.  Each of the three finalist projects will receive mentorship and support in the form of insurance, equipment and studio rentals, and  a small financial budget to produce their films.

Finalists and their teams will be required to work with a producing mentor on a weekly basis to finance, schedule, budget and crew their films, while taking part in complimentary workshops throughout the winter.  These finalist films will go into production by the end of 2025.

SPYA workshop attendees will be invited to work as crew on the three finalist films, expanding their on-set production experience in addition to a paid honorarium.
