2020 Mentorship Program

2020 Mentorship Program

Tuesday, April 21 (all day)

OVERVIEW

During this period of physical distancing, SPYA and Yukon Media Development have been working to provide Yukon film and screen-media industry professionals with funding for mentorships to advance their production skills (both above and below the line) and business skills.

Mentorships are paid at $75/hour for up to 20 hours. Both the applicant and mentor may be paid a portion of the total hourly wage.

Who is eligible?

Applicants must:

  • be a Yukon resident;
  • be or become a SPYA member;
  • have a demonstrated commitment to a career in the screen-media industries; and
  • have earned income from the screen-media industries in 2019 or 2020.

Mentors must:

  • have demonstrated experience working in the area or format of applicant’s focus;
  • not be currently attached to a project for which the applicant has received Yukon Media funding; and
  • be legally eligible to work in Canada.

How to apply

Deadline: Thursday, April 30, 2020, at 5pm. We will do our best to notify successful applicants as soon as possible. Should all funding not be awarded, a second intake will be announced.

Adjudication Process

A jury from SPYA, YMD and an outside film professional will review the applications and make decisions based on:

  • an applicant’s demonstrated need for mentorship;
  • the mentor’s experience and suitability for the project; and
  • the training plan submitted.

Payments

Mentorships are paid at $75/hour for up to 20 hours. Applicants propose how the fee will be split between themselves and their mentor, but at least half ($37.50) must be paid to the mentor. All payments will be made directly to the applicant and the mentor upon completion of the mentorship and receipt of invoices.

The applicant should be aware that any payments received under this program may impact their eligibility for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB). Questions should be directed to CERB at 613-369-3710 or fin.financepublic-financepublique.fin@canada.ca.

Mentorships must be complete by August 30, 2020. Invoices for final payment must be received by September 15, 2020. Any invoices received after September 15, 2020 may not be eligible for payment.

This program is made possible by the support of Yukon Media Development.

You may apply to both the Training and Mentorship programs. If you do indicate which one is your priority as we may only be able to fund one per person.
